We offer cycling, barre, boxing, HIIT, and yoga for all ages and fitness levels. We are located only a few miles from the city of Pittsburgh at 207 East 8th Avenue in Homestead. Our front entrance is on 8th Avenue with a back entrance on 7th Avenue right by the entrance to the waterfront and Police Station, Our brand new 3700 square foot facility has a heated yoga room, cycling room, changing rooms and bathrooms, and a rad local coffee shop in front for our members to socialize before and after class. There is ample parking on 7th and 8th Avenue as well as in the lot directly next to the side of the building.

Couples Yoga and Dinner
We were thrilled to host another group of members and guests looking for a fresh alternative to the usual Valentine's date. Karyna and Kristy set the mood with partner yoga and Chef Steve capped the night with a delicious three-course dinner at Studio A.M. a few doors down. We enjoy being able to offer these unique couple activities that also allow us to couple with other local businesses.
Gals untied for cycling and Barre classes. The sweat was followed by re-hydration and a great Studio A.M. brunch. We will surely find another excuse to break out the sangria again soon. These events fill quickly though so don't miss the next one!
Balance Workshop with Julie Straub
Members of all abilities joined Julie for a two-hour session focused on upping their balance games.
This was a fun one. Chef Steve knocked another meal out of the park, with sangria and wine...of course. A good time was had by all in attendance and everyone left full. Most brought a fierce appetite following class earlier that day.
Live Acoustic Yoga & Brunch with Karyna Kerin
We liked this event so much that we made acoustic yoga a weekly addition to our regular schedule. Check the class schedule and sign up early for the acoustic offerings. The class fills quickly.
Power & Press HIIT
We held another Power & Press event with Paper, Cotton & Ink but this time we started with a HIIT power workout at the studio before moving down the block to print tees and tanks. The new look gear is on display at Local Motion and can be purchased during class hours at the desk.
DJ Cycle and Beer Tasting
Did you know Erica's husband is a DJ? Well, he is, and he and Erica spent some late nights working on an epic live DJ cycling class for this event. If that wasn't enough, we teamed up with Voodoo Brewery for a beer tasting and light appetizers after the class.
Fearless Balance Workshop
"What if I fall? Oh, but my darling what if you fly?" -Eric Hanson
This 2 part workshop series was designed to take the fear out of yoga balance postures. Do you not try them in class because you think you will fall on your face? Do you think you lack the strength to try a leg or arm balance? Do you just want to learn some bad ass balances and gain confidence that you can actually do them? If you answered yes, to any of these questions, you'll have to catch the next workshop. We want to advance your practice at your pace. We'll continue to offer workshops that will expand and grow your skills.
Friday Night Workout and Dinner
It was a bella serata - or at least that's what Google told us was the Italian translation for a beautiful evening. That's no shock when the recipe was a dash of cycling followed by a healthy serving of Chef Steve's three-course Italian meal at Studio AM...bella serata.
Kids Fitness Workshop
This one was a blast. We filled the yoga room with munchkins for our Fit Kids workshop. While moms and dads were treated to a cycling session with Erica, Steph and Laura ran the little ones through a fun-filled exercise session. Sweaty smiling kids met their parents after class for a healthy snack. We hope everyone had so much fun that they didn't realize they were working out.
Bike and Brunch with Studio A.M.
Bad dancing on a bike? Check! This wild ride started with your favorite wedding songs and then our "reception" at Studio A.M. was complete with a cookie table and sangria.
Beginner Yoga Workshop
We ran through the basics in a semi-private setting over a 90-minute workshop. We taught/reviewed breathing techniques, sun salutations, standing and seated postures that help to increase strength, flexibility, and balance.
Sweetheart Yoga and Dinner
Valentine's date night! Our couples started their evening with a lighthearted partner yoga experience. When class concluded, Chef Steve and Studio A.M. had a delicious dinner waiting in our lobby that had been transformed into Homestead's newest bistro.
Galentines Day: Girl Power Yoga/Cyling and Brunch
Ever combine a power yoga or cycling session with a Studio A.M. three-course brunch that includes juice tastings from Salud Juicery? We did. This one sold out quickly and was a clear hit.
Brunch and Burn with 100.7 Star Pittsburgh
We joined fitness professionals from the area at Sing Sing and Rock Bottom in the Waterfront for delicious food, tasty drinks, and some fitness fun. We provided the yoga classes and for that day a bar was turned into a yoga studio.
Health Coaching Session- Label Reading & Guided Grocery Shopping
Laura and Kristy led a group of members through a label reading class to uncover unhealthy ingredients hiding in in our cupboards. The group took a short walk to Aldi next to shop for nutritious foods to use in a receipe shared during the event.
90'S Aerobics Dance Paaartay
We hosted a packed house in our lobby for 60 minutes of dance aerobics followed by music, snacks and some booze...some Polaroids...and a human pyramid.

Before our space was complete we teamed-up with our neighbors, Paper, Cotton & Ink, to host a unique gathering at their shop. We started with yoga, and ended with refreshments and screen printing Local Motion t-shirts.

do I need to sign up for classes in advance?
It is highly recommended that you sign up for classes online prior to the scheduled class. This helps in a few ways. First, it reserves your spot so you don't have to worry about the class being full. Second, it saves time because when you arrive at the studio all we need to do is quickly check you into the class and you are ready to go. Third, you can schedule your classes for several weeks in advance to reserve your spot and keep you exercising on a regular basis.
What’s the deal with indoor cycling?
Indoor cycling has been around since the 1980s. It has become increasingly popular over the last few years with more independent studios opening. Indoor cycling is a great form of cardiovascular exercise and helps to build strength and endurance in the lower body.
What do I need to wear and bring to a cycling class?
You should wear comfortable exercise clothing and tennis shoes. Clip in bicycle shoes are not necessary, but some people prefer to use them. Bring a water bottle and a small towel. We sell water in the studio and have water fountains for refills.
What if I’ve never taken a cycling class before?
You should arrive at least 10 minutes early so that the instructor can help you get comfortable on your bike. That’s all you need to get started. The rest comes with practice.
What are the benefits of heated yoga and is it for me?
When practicing yoga in a heated room your body is able to get into postures more deeply and safely. You also sweat more than in a non-heated room, so there is an additional benefit of detoxification of the body. Heated yoga can be beneficial for anyone. If you are concerned about practicing yoga in a heated room, please contact us and we can make sure it is right for you.
What should I wear and bring to a yoga class?
You should wear comfortable exercise clothing that is breathable. Yoga practice is best barefoot, but some people prefer to keep their socks on. You should bring a mat, towel, and a water bottle. We have mats if you forget to bring yours at no cost.
What happens if I sign up for a class and can’t make it?
You can cancel your class sign-up with no penalty as long as it is at least 4 hours before the class. If you fail to cancel and don’t show up or try to cancel outside of the 4 hour time frame, your class fee is forfeited.
LAURA FONZI, CO-OWNER
Laura has been a fitness instructor and yoga teacher since 2002. She earned a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh and has been a faculty member teaching in the Department of Health and Physical Activity since 2007. She’s certified through prestigious fitness organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine and the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America. Laura has extensive knowledge of exercise and the human body and years of experience working with people of all ages and fitness abilities. She has a passion for helping people to make healthy, and most importantly, sustainable lifestyle changes.
Laura’s hobbies are mostly comprised of being a boss while running after her 4 children with her husband, Mark.
DAN KELLY, CO-OWNER
Dan is an avid yogi and cycling enthusiast. He grew up in the 15120 and after several stops living elsewhere, returned to his native neighborhood hell bent on making positive changes. His full time employment is in orthopedic surgery sales. Dan has a degree in Economics from Tulane University, a degree worthy interest in community development, and a self proclaimed doctorate in getting weird.
When he isn't at Local Motion studio working on his fitness vocabulary, Dan can be found on the Gaelic football field or planning another huge party at his haunted house.
KRISTY BESWICK, LEAD INSTRUCTOR
Kristy has been teaching group fitness and indoor cycling as well as personal training since 2010. Kristy has a B.S. and M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Slippery Rock University and the University of Pittsburgh, respectively. Helping others achieve their health and fitness goals has been the most rewarding way that she has used her knowledge and skills. She believes that keeping the mind and body fit and healthy will lead to self fulfillment and happiness.
One of her strengths as a fitness instructor is that she can keep a session light and fun while also kicking your butt and making you sweat. After all, STRONG is the new SEXY! She is thrilled to be working as the lead instructor at the coolest studio in town!
Heather is a free-spirited wellness enthusiast who was voted "Most likely to join the Peace Corps" by her undergraduate classmates at The University of Pittsburgh. She received her BS in Sports Medicine/Movement Science and, years later, went on to study through The Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a Certified Holistic Health Coach. Heather believes strongly in keeping both the mind and body well through Movement, Meditation and Whole Food Nutrition! Peace, love, puppies and manbuns!
Karyna decided to become an instructor to spread the joy of yoga practice to others and completed a 200-hour teacher training. She aims to bring the transformative and uplifting elements she found in yoga to her students. She became a certified Spinning instructor as she found indoor cycling to be a great compliment to yoga practice, as well as a way to continue road cycling training in the winter months. When she’s not in the studio, in the office at her day job, or on the mountain, you can find her hanging out with her dog, Bentley, reading, and enjoying time with family and friends. Karyna is grateful for the teachers that continue to inspire her in and out of the studio and is so excited to be a part of the Local Motion community!
Taylor earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh in Exercise Science and Health, Physical Activity, and Chronic Disease. While working as a graduate student, she taught various fitness classes, including cycling, body sculpting, yoga, Pilates, and HIIT. Taylor has always had a passion for fitness and is fantastic at motivating others. She believes that fitness isn’t a trend, but a lifestyle. If she’s not at the studio or working for Innovative Wellness Solutions, she is running a half marathon with her sister.
Erin Pace began her yoga journey with DVD’s in college, but after stepping into a studio soon realized the power of a physical teacher. In 2006 she completed her 200 hour training with the Amazing Yoga team. She has taught at Amazing Yoga, University of Pittsburgh, Stray Dog Yoga and studied with Bryan Kest, Kathryn Budig, Gregor Singleton to name a few. Yoga taught Erin that breath can calm the mind and practicing is not about perfection, but about letting go the need to be perfect. Bring yourself to your mat and let the flow do the rest.
Marco has been teaching group exercise classes and yoga as well as indoor cycling since 2013. Marco received both his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Pittsburgh in Exercise Physiology where he had the opportunity to teach students, faculty and staff. A passion for helping individuals become active and stay healthy at any level, beginner to advanced, is what drives him to teach. One of his strengths is being able to win over new-comers to the fitness world while balancing a challenging class pace with modifications if needed. He is excited to continue instructing yoga and cycling at Local Motion!
Becky has been practicing yoga since 2008, and received her 200-hour teaching certification in Baptiste Style Power yoga from Amazing Yoga in March 2009. She became a certified Spinning instructor in October 2015. Yoga has allowed Becky to heal and stay healthy both physically and mentally. Becky’s own injuries have lead her to yoga and cycling because they are both physically challenging and sustainable. Both are complementary; cultivating flexibility and strength. She is happy to share her love of yoga and cycling with others in the hope they find some happiness too.
Jenna earned her BS and MS from the University of Pittsburgh in Exercise Science and Health, Physical Activity, and Chronic Disease, respectively. She currently works at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, as the Research Health and Fitness Coordinator, helping adolescents live a healthier life through exercise. Jenna started instructing cycling classes in college and it quickly became one of her favorite classes to teach. Jenna has a passion for health and fitness, and wants to share that passion with the community around her.
Julie began practicing yoga in 1999 as an alternative form of exercise. Practicing yoga has not only improved her strength and flexibility, but has also brought balance to many aspects of her life. For Julie, yoga is a great physical and mental practice that allows her to release the stresses of everyday life and "just be." Once Julie started to see the many positive changes that yoga brought to her own life she was inspired to share this practice with others. She looks forward to sharing what she has learned through her studies in public health and yoga and hopes to continue to grow on this journey with others. Julie draws from several different traditions of yoga including Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow.
Yoga has changed Clayton’s life, and given him new hope in healing from a severe back injury. His back pain resulted from an old injury from 10 years ago, which had worsened by working a desk job for 4 years. Sitting at a desk all day resulted in more limited mobility, and sciatic nerve pain – surgery was even discussed. Enter the practice of yoga – Clayton has learned more about his body and mind, and how to modify his practice in order to help heal and become stronger. Through years of practice, Clayton now enjoys being very active with rock climbing and playing bass guitar in a band. Clayton has his Masters in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh, and has a deep understanding of human anatomy and physiology. Preferred teaching style entails a slow/mindful practice that helps students learn body control and functional movement patterns. Check out more of his personal practice on Instagram ( @zen.punk ).
You must cancel within 4 hours of the class for which you are registered.
If you fail to do so, your class pack will be charged for the class or if you have an unlimited package, you will incur a $5 charge.
Class registrations and cancellations should be done ONLINE. Classes are available for pre-registration and cancelation via the website or the MindBody app. We cannot guarantee that we will receive or process your cancelation if you call us or send an email. Thank you for your cooperation in this.
Gift Card Refunds/Class pass expiration
Gift Cards and Gift Certificates are non-refundable and non-returnable.
All class passes have an expiration date and are non-refundable or transferable from one student to another. Class passes cannot be shared.
Class passes can only be used for regular scheduled yoga and cycling classes and exclude special workshops, series, events or teacher training/development programs.
Workshop / Series-Program Cancellations
If you cancel at least 14 days prior to the workshop/series-program start date, you have the option to request a refund or a studio credit; if a refund is requested, the amount paid will be refunded minus a 15% administration fee. If a studio credit is requested, it will be in the full amount and can be used towards any future classes, passes, events, or workshops, but not for merchandise.
If you cancel less than 14 days but more than 2 days prior to the workshop/series-program start date, an account credit will be applied for the full amount paid.
No refunds, transfers or credits can be issued for cancellations within 48 hours (2 days) of workshop start date.
If we announce an event as “SOLD OUT” or “FULL” in the studio or online, no credit will be given after the announcement as you have taken a space that could have been purchased by another student.
Credit will be given if your spot is taken by a paying client.
In addition, absence/no show to a workshop is non-refundable. If you cancel on the day of the workshop or after it has taken place, a refund or credit will not be possible.
In very rare instances, workshops could occasionally be canceled by the studio due to a teacher emergency or other circumstances beyond our control.
If a workshop is canceled, you will be notified by email as soon as possible, and you will receive a full refund or full credit toward your LM Studio account if you choose.
Private Session Cancellations
Private Sessions must be cancelled 24 hours in advance or student will be charged for the full rate of the session.
If you are late for a private class, the class will end at the original time.
If you are more than 15 minutes late for a private class it is at the instructor’s discretion whether to hold an abbreviated class or not.
We encourage you to try on the clothes before purchasing.
Products purchased in the store can be exchanged within 7 days when accompanied with a receipt. Credit card refunds will incur a 15% administration fee. You may also choose to receive a full studio credit if you return within 7 days. Products must be unused and in original, undamaged packaging/tags attached. There are no returns or exchanges on opened personal products.
